Karate-jutsu

Karate-jutsu is a classical Martial Art, absolutely pragmatic and intended for applied hand-to-hand fighting aims. Modern karate-jutsu is a harmonious unity of traditional Okinawa-karate methods, their Chinese roots and modern scientific approach to hand-to-hand fighting. The fighting method by means of karate includes training and advancement of the skills of instinctively-reflectory reaction on aggression, opponent’s psycho-nervous reactions analysis and the usage of this knowledge in extreme situation.

Modern karate-jutsu is not a sport but due to the universalism of its preparedness, can be used in sport competitions.

Historically, under “karate-jutsu” definition in Okinawa they meant Chinese hand-to-hand fighting techniques. It is known that lots of Chinese Masters used to visit Okinawa, and the Okinawa’s, in their turn, would often visit China. “Kara” kanji, which was included in the name of this system, meant “Tang period of China”. “Te” kanji is rendered as “hand”. Thus originally Okinawa-karate meant “Chinese hand” hand-to-hand fighting method.

But at the beginning of the 20th century, having reached Japan, this name was changed, and the term “kara” was replaced by another kanji, meaning “void”. Consequently, karate got the meaning of “empty hand”, that is unarmed hand-to-hand fighting.

“Jutsu” kanji has lots of meanings but in the karate-jutsu context it is usually rendered as “art”, “skills”, “techniques”.

The common interpretation of ‘karate-jutsu’ name clearly shows its extreme applied directedness.

It is known that not so long ago, at the beginning of the 20th century, karate had no styles division, which we can observe now. One of the most famous written sources, depicting the true state of the original old Okinawan karate, is “Bubishi”. Lots of the Masters, who have founded wide-spread styles, refer to it. The experts consider this texts collection to have the basis of Chinese crane style, the elements of the tiger style, part of the “arhat fist” monastic School and a number of other hand-to-hand fighting Schools, which was the basics of karate.

Karate-jutsu is grounded on the natural human body movements and reactions, including the most effective methods of fight running and intended to defeat an opponent of any size and strength.
